PREPARE FOR UNPLANNED POWER OUTAGES

Monsoon season is officially here! During monsoon season, power outages are common. Don’t get left in the dark, being prepared could keep your business and others safe for the summer.

PREPARE FOR STORMS

Emergency Kit: Plan ahead by creating an emergency supply kit that includes non-perishable food items such as: water, a first-aid kit, a battery-operated radio, flashlights, extra batteries and any necessary medications.

Warning vs Watch: Know the difference between a monsoon watch and warning. A watch means severe weather hasn’t occurred yet but is indicated by the conditions. A warning means severe weather is about to occur or already has been reported.

Electronics: When a storm is approaching, avoid using computers. Unplug electronics before the storm if feasible. Don’t touch wiring if you can hear thunder.

Power Lines: Stay at least 100 feet away from downed power lines. If you see a downed line, immediately call 911.

Power Help: When the lights go out, call Empire Power Systems at 1-888-CAT-POWER and we’ll get you back up and running with Cat rental power equipment.

KNOW THE WARNINGS

• Check the weather forecast before leaving home and watch the sky for signs of an approaching storm. Severe thunderstorms can develop quickly.

• A Dust Storm Warning means visibility of 1/2 mile or less due to blowing dust or sand.

• When a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect, it means damaging wind gusts of 60 mph or higher are occurring or likely.

• Lightning can strike up to 60 miles away from the nearest rainfall.

• Sandbags are the best way to divert water and protect from flooding. Free sand is available for pickup at many fire stations throughout the Valley.
